Cross Armory’s SAFE MAG is a modification for weapons in regulated states that require fixed magazines. The Cross Armory SAFE MAG works by releasing your magazine instantly when you separate the upper and lower receivers of your .308 or AR-10, without having to press a button.
Built with Restrictions in Mind
Cross Armory’s SAFE MAG is built to be consistent with the fixed magazine laws which state that your weapon must have a “fixed magazine”, which are defined as “an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device can not be removed without disassembly of the firearm action.” The firearm action of an AR-15, .308 or AR-10 is housed in the upper and lower receivers. Separating the upper and lower receiver to release your magazine disables the firearm action.
Cross Armory’s SAFE MAG also allows for insertion of a new magazine when the upper receiver and lower receiver are closed, without bending or stressing the hardware of the weapon or of SAFE MAG.

Determine the width of the base of your upper receiver:
Installing your Safe Mag
Separate your upper and lower receiver.
Use calipers or measuring tape to determine the width of the base of the upper receiver (measure are of base directly above the trigger)
If the upper width at the base is 7/8″ or 0.875″, choose Aero. If the upper width at the base is 1 1/4″ or 1.25″, choose DPMS.

This is the best item I have found to make our guns legal in Cali. Cross Armory has the best customer service anywhere. The biggest thing is make sure you measure your upper before you buy it there is two different sizes.

I have it on my M6 lwrc even with that I had a Mickey Mouse it a little bit but at least they still give you the guarantee of it if something else goes wrong but on the 308 did not have the pleasure of using it because they did not have had the rifle length kit buttstock now you do I believe but it looks funky so I went futureless

I got the Safe Mag Gen 2 mag release, the upper receiver pivot pin stop block, and the quick release for the upper receiver. All parts installed easily and fit perfectly. Now I have a rifle that is technically not an assault weapon, and presumably will remain that way. At least until the next legislative session…

I am satisfied with the product. It is simple to install however, the screw that adjust the magazine catch fell off while I was at the range. I believe I left it loose when fitting my magazine to my lower receiver. Beware of this since there is no replacement screw with package. Unfortunately my picture won’t upload

Sometimes stick and doesn’t allow magazine to freely fall out. I adjusted the screws in many different ways and different parts of the product will stick. This doesn’t happen every single time but it does often. I’m sure I followed the installation guide correctly. Perhaps I just got a bad product from a bad batch. Who knows. Overall it’s an okay product. Hopefully I can get the sticking to do away.
